A Vote for Zimmer – A Vote for One of Us

I’m writing this editorial asking for your vote for Michael Zimmer for County Commissioner. You may or may not have seen his signs along the highway or he may have visited you briefly in his walking tour of the county. He isn’t a deep pocket type of politician – he’s really just like you or me running for office trying to make a difference. His isn’t a huge campaign with major corporate backing – he’s one of us. He’s trying to get his name and message out to everyone any way he can.

I’ve known Mike and his family for several years. He has two girls the same age as mine (12 and 9). He’s community type of person. Over the last few years I can recall him being at almost every community event happening in Southern Carroll County. Mike is an active member in his church and a good neighbor. He’s comfortable talking about the Ravens, Orioles or if pushed the Redskins. He likes going to barbecues and crab feasts. He’s a real history buff and enjoys learning about our country’s history and leaders. He’s a family man and loves doing things with his daughters. He loves living in this county and loves the area for all of the family things that can done.

For the past few years he’s looked around the county and didn’t care for what was happening. He didn’t like the direction the county is going in terms of the taxes and education. At different times he expressed this at our various social functions. He believed he could change things for the better and decided to run for commissioner. This decision involved a great amount of courage and dedication.

Mike is a good person with great ideas and conviction. He understands the issues and problems. He’s looking to address these issues and has a plan. This doesn’t mean hiring assistants, raising taxes and throwing more money at the problems. He has a strategy and that’s what we should be voting for a strategy– not a familiar name or the person with the most yard signs with the deepest pockets or most sponsors. Vote for a regular person with a strategy for solving the problems, a person with ideas, a person who understandings our issues and concerns.
